AVP, a lifestyle sports entertainment company focused on professional beach volleyball, in partnership with AEG Live, LLC, one of the world's largest concert and event promoters, announced its all-star competitors for the second season of the "sand-sational" AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Indoor Beach Volleyball Tour. The tour will showcase 2008 Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers along with other top Olympians and AVP players. Now in its second season, the AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour takes the beach experience indoors when it hits The Q Saturday, February 7th, 2009.
"Beach volleyball is a year round sport so its really great that we're able to extend the elite level of competition the AVP provides well into the winter months," says 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Phil Dalhausser. "We'll bring the beach, the party and the excitement in to every stop we hit. I know fans will enjoy the whole experience. I'm really pumped to be a part of the Hot Winter Nights Tour this year."
"This tour gives our diehard fans and new fans a firsthand look at the best athletes in the world," said AVP CEO and Commissioner, Leonard Armato. "On the heels of dramatic performances on the world's stage in Beijing, this year's tour is set to satisfy volleyball fans everywhere."
Along with reigning Olympic and World Champions Dalhausser and Rogers, the star-studded line up of athletes participating in the tour include 2008 Olympians Nicole Branagh, Elaine Youngs, Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal. Gibb and Rosenthal return to the winter tour along with fan favorite Casey Jennings who all shared top honors earning three titles each during the tour's inaugural run. Also returning to the winter tour on the women's side 2004 Bronze medalist Holly McPeak and rising star April Ross who both brought the heat indoors with their stellar performances in 2008.
The AVP Johnsonville Hot Winter Nights Tour is the first indoor volleyball tour of its kind. Each tour stop consists of a three-hour round robin tournament, as well as an indoor beach party. Taking place during the dead of winter, the Hot Winter Nights Tour brings the beach, Olympians past and present, and the most popular players from the summertime AVP Crocs Tour to arenas in snowbound cities all over the U.S.
