The Modern King of Waltz Returns to The Q on Saturday, May 19th at 8:00 p.m. with The Home Coming! Tour
André Rieu will once again appear on stage at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday, May 19th at 8:00 p.m. Rieu's melodramatic performances, rock-star demeanor and long, wavy hair has revived the waltz-music category. His live concerts, often shown on PBS, attract a wide variety of fans, typically ranging in age from 15 to 65 years old. Members of the audience can be seen in any manner of attire, varying from formal black tie to t-shirts and tennis shoes.
To overcome shyness onstage during his early career, and to remove the emotional distance between himself and the audience, the Dutch violinist virtuoso adopted the example of Johann Strauss, who would create a festive atmosphere at his performances and encourage his audiences to enjoy the music by getting out of their seats and waltz in the aisles. This was well received, and Rieu assembled a group of local Dutch musicians, creating the Johann Strauss Orchestra.
Rieu has toured in countries all over the world and is considered an excellent conductor, a talented violinist and a great showman. Overall, he has sold more than 20 million albums and CDs. Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra have received numerous awards including two World Music Awards and multiple recordings that have gone gold and platinum in many countries around the world, including 8-times platinum in the Netherlands. His most recent CD, Songs from my Heart, is based on melodies from concerts played at Vrijthof Square in his hometown.
