The Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena Team Up
with Allied Waste to Implement Recycling Program
CLEVELAND, November 9, 2007 - In an effort to become more environmentally friendly, Quicken Loans Arena is introducing a recycling program to fans attending events at the venue. Thanks to a partnership between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Allied Waste Industries, Inc., fans attending every event at The Q will have the opportunity to pitch in by using recycling bins placed around the concourses.
An estimated 2 million people that attend events annually at Quicken Loans Arena, which includes Cavaliers and Lake Erie Monsters games, will be asked to recycle their plastic beverage bottles. As the public learns to adopt this new manner of disposing their recyclables at the arena, the program will be expanded to include other materials.
"We are taking a proactive approach to act responsibly in changing procedures and habits that will serve to protect our environment," said Len Komoroski, president of the Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena. "By teaming up with Allied Waste, our efforts will be supervised by the experts who know how to implement an effective recycling program."
The Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena management expect this effort to help reduce the amount of throwaway items left behind during and after games, concerts and other events. To further educate fans on this new initiative, the Cavaliers will feature an in-game promotion called "Pass the Trash" that will take place just before the end of half-time. A special public address announcement will advise fans to pass their trash down the aisle as the "Allied Waste Clean Team" descends into the seating areas with collection bins.
"Allied Waste is very proud to be a part of Quicken Loans Arena's recycling program," said Heath Eddleblute, district manager for Allied Waste. "Our goal is to deliver exceptional operational service and offer our expertise in waste management to help create an eco-friendly environment at the arena."
